Important notes for developers on IE 7

Many of the web developers whom I met recently expressed thier main concern on Internet Exporer 7 as "Change in User Agent String"...If you wonder what the heck is that.. Read more about "User Agent String"

IE 7 team is proactively collecting very good feedback from developers and documenting the details on all the issues/concerns. That's a very good way to talk to developers in thier language. They have recently blogged a nice post on User Agent String issues in IE 7 and related documentation here.

VB6 to VB.NET Migration Guide is available...

Overview from Gotdotnet

Migrating Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 applications to Visual Basic .NET can be a non-trivial task. Many of the features and technologies of Visual Basic 6.0 have changed or become obsolete. Developing an equivalent Visual Basic .NET version of a functional Visual Basic 6.0 application often requires more than just learning a new version of the language and performing a translation. A deep understanding of the issues involved in migrating deprecated technologies is essential to a successful migration. Microsoft patterns & practices guide will provide proven assistance in the processes and techniques for successful migration of Visual Basic 6.0 applications to Visual Basic .NET.

GotCodeSnippets.NET is Live !

The site, http://www.gotcodesnippets.net, is the idea from US Regional Director, Michael Palermo after getting feedback from several code snippet talks, and leveraging the code snippet feature in projects, assisting him in generating high productivity in code generation.

What is it?

Well, have you ever used www.regexlib.com when you wanted to look up a pattern? If not, shame on you. If so, then you know how valuable that can be if you weren't a RegEx expert. GotCodeSnippets.NET hopes to be the same valuable resource. A place…no scratch that…THE place that Visual Studio developers can go to download code snippets to make their IDE more productive. From simple ones to fully implemented design patterns, anything is game.

The version 2 of GCS.NET comes with an addin to VS.NET IDE with the features of Search/Download and Install the code snippets.

Whidbey Tip# 1 : How to use custome port for VS 2005 Internal Web Server

In recent sessions I did for ASP.NET 2.0, the one frequent question I got from audience is : How can I debug on random ports while my functionality of application depends on a specific port number? The internal web server uses random ports and exposes that as a property for your solution. So we can customize the port number very easily (shown below)

dynamic port

Chnage the property “Use Dynamic ports” to “false” and use your custome port number.
