I plan to build a MCE PC in about June or July, Dave (also in Australia).

The lack of an EPG in Australia will be a bitch, but I can live with that. I just hope that we have some sort of Extender hardware (or an Xbox extender for Aus) by then.

And a PCI-Express DTV tuner card would be nice! :)

two notes:

there is no way that system power state choice (Sx) should require an OS reinstall. It should be a bios preference at worst mapping standby to the right state.

or something you can tweek with powercfg

also, you might want to warn folks that the specific hauppauge card you mention is appropriate for only some geographic regions

re power state change: Yeah, I was somewhat surprised by this, I built the system with S1 enabled, changed it to S3 and it always reverted back to S1 behaviour. I dug around the web and found various references to having to rebuild, a guy had tried tweaking the registry settings etc but to no avail. In the end sometimes just rebuilding is easier...

good point, from what I can see Hauppauge only sell the card in geographies that support digital terrestrial - mostly without futher research Oz and Europe...

Matt: There may not be a freely available Australian EPG, but there was a comment left on my blog last month about a paid EPG: http://will.id.au/blog/archive/2005/01/03/catching-up-on-my-inbox-and-an-australian-epg

The guy is basically providing the EPG data as an XML feed, then build your own EPG UI -> http://weblogs.asp.net/charlieo/archive/2004/12/12/280980.aspx

I believe you can avoid the use of TweakUI by going to Settings, then General, then Media Center Setup, followed by Set Up Remote Desktop.

After asking if you want to enable Remote Desktop, it will ask if you want to have auto-logon.

Thanks for the info on standby modes. I'm re-installing now..

And it is possible to get EPG for free in Australia, with the combined use of 2 programs, one is XMLTV grabber (Get's a guide off http://www.d1.com.au) and the other is Quick Guide (converts the .xml file to MS format)...

at the moment it's complicated but you can do it!

Does the Digital Terrestrial TV Tuner Hauppauge Nova-T/MCE allow you to hook up Foxtel Digital?

Hi Paul, no you wont get Foxtel Digital working with a Digital Terrestrial card - different signal types etc... I dont have Foxtel but I'm pretty sure you need an analogue TV card, something like the Hauppauge PVR cards - see http://www.newmagic.com.au/NM_FS_MAIN.html?http%3A//www.newmagic.com.au/NM_pages/main/content_default.html to caputure the output from the Foxtel set top box.
