One thing I don't get is: Why do people like tutorials that are mostly repeating the samples from the SDK.
Reading the already available documentation would save lots of work!
Anyways, there are also some fresh and really well done articles. Hopefully this site will develop to a really good starting point for DirectX Coders.

Yeah, you're right that the tutorials start off by repeating what the tutorials do. But the reason I wrote them that way was
a) To complement the tutorials. I don't know about you, but I don't always get why something is done the way it's done, even in a code tutorial with good comments.
b) Because I write them as I learn. Most topics are written just after I figure out a particular pieces of the API. I wrote the first ones after studying the tutorials.
c) The managed documentation sucks today, and was basically nonexistent until last summer. The C++ documentation is good, but many people find it unapproachable simply because they've convinced themselves they can't read C++. They're wrong, of course.

The timeline is about right, I discovered Craig's tutorial about 6 months back. It's about the only few sites available at that time. Plus, it's very comprehensive - at least for DX9 newbie like myself.

Hi Craig,
I liked your Direct3D Managed tutorial very much. It is very reader-friendly and usefull for people fresh to the world of 3D. I would be very glad to see it expanded to cover other areas of the 3D world. I also tried to find some tutorial on many 3D concepts like pixel/vertex shaders etc but couldn't find anything usefull.

I do intend to keep writing. But of course things like my wife, my paying job, and keeping my life from becoming overrun with things that need doing all get in the way.
My habit used to be to write these whenever I would fly somewhere. But I do that a lot less often these days, so I've slowed down a bit. I'll have to figure out some other way to get back to it more often.
