A stocking stuffer from TC45

Published 21 December 07 08:33 PM

Ecma TC45 has uploaded to their web site proposed dispositions for 2298 of the 3522 total DIS 29500 comments today, according the the announcement on the Ecma web site from Tom Ngo of NextPage. There are 532 new responses, and they've now completed 65% of the dispositions.

This batch includes some pretty big changes, such as making DIS 29500 into a three-part standard that has separate conformance "classes" for OPC (Open Packaging Conventions) and MCE (Markup Compatibility and Extensibility), moving VML and a bunch of other things into an annex for deprecated features, and changes that allow for pre-1900 dates and accurate handling of the 1900 leap-year issue. You can learn more about the details over on Brian's blog.

Speaking of Brian's blog, I noticed an unusual comment from him about the Buckeyes. I think he must be teasing the #1 Buckeye fan in Redmond.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

good ! *ECMA* web site... Tom Ngo of *NextPage*... where's Wally? ( Microsoft )  ;-)

wow! this is what i call a really-super-fast-tracking process

in less than one year ECMA reviewed, discussed, corrected, edited, published a +6000 page "standard"

and now in less than 2 months ( again without any transparence - meeting public minutes, public mailing list, etc )  you are fast-changing great part of this +6000 pages, well, chaning .. say.. deprecating great part of it

wow! Microsoft, you are a standards machine!  ;-)

happy new year and happy new "standards"

Marc, you may be surprised to learn (:-)) that I don't agree with your interpretation of this progress.

There are many people in TC45 working very long hours to get this done.  I know several non-Microsoft TC45 members who have given up planned vacations, spent long hours on middle-of-the-night phone calls, and made other sacrifices to try to get through all of this work in the allotted time.  (And I know a few of those at Microsoft, too.)

The non-MS TC45 members deserve some credit for their efforts.  If we agree that standards work has value, then surely we agree that these sorts of people are critical to the process.

It's been quite a year for those who have been blogging about the Open XML file formats. Here's a look
