Another use of MIIS
We have just implemented another application of Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS) at Microsoft and we're calling it EasyID. It's really very simple, MIIS looks at our HR application and pulls, in my case, my first name and surname and allows me to use these to create an email address. Of course, this makes my email address much more intelligible. To demonstrate, the old style was always:
alias@microsoft.com
but now we can have:
firstname.surname@microsoft.com
We've implemented this through a simple web based self service application that also allows you to chose a variant using middle initials for example.
Best of all, the old email will still work so I'll not stop getting emails from anyone that hasn't got hold of my new email address it's just been relegated to secondary.
My guess is that my colleagues will start to take advantage of this very quickly because he old n character alias does look confusing as an email address.
It helps to demonstrate how MIIS 2003 can be used to solve the most fundamental of real world business problems, that being communication.
