Error 1718 when installing Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1
In my job I have to regularly install, uninstall and reinstall various things, including Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 and I have hit the above error many times. I previously relied on Heath's blog posting about this but my colleague Phil kindly brought to my attention that there is now a fix available for the underlying issue which is an installer issue with large patch files. It's just that the Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 is a particularly large patch and frequently fell foul of this issue, especially on Windows Server 2003.
