.NET Framework 3.5, 3.0 SP1 and 2.0 SP1 available for download

Following the earlier news about Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5 shipping, various .NET Framework updates and releases are now available for download:

.NET Framework 3.5 (available as a web install or a downloadable full package)
.NET Framework 3.0 SP1
.NET Framework 2.0 SP1 (available as x86, x64 and IA64 packages)

Since my earlier blog post, Scott has blogged about the release and has lots of links to articles about the many new features.

Cheers

Doug

Just curious. Will be the .NET Framework 3.0 SP1 released as standalone (full) setup packages for x86, x64 and IA-64?

Hi Ramon

I don't actually know. I'm not sure there is a .NET 3.0 for IA-64, is there? As there was for x64, I would expect there would be an SP1 for x64. I suggest keeping an eye on the download site over the coming hours/days.

Cheers

Doug

I'm not seeing a .NET 3.5 Framework SDK download. Is installing Visual Studio now required to get the Framework documentation installed locally? Is the CLR Debugger not scheduled for an update?

I'm also having trouble finding the BCL source code download. Is that on a separate release cycle?

Oops, you're right, .NET 3.0 is available only for x86 and x64 architectures, and therefore the SP1.

Hi Derek

The .NET Framework SDK is being merged into the Windows SDK. The version synched with Beta 2 is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3671e40c-d700-4509-9ed0-30e00ea38a9c&DisplayLang=en

I don't know when the version for 3.5 RTM will be out - hopefully not long.

Also, the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2008 is available for free download here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6ff3bc60-32c8-4c22-8591-a20bf8dff1a2&DisplayLang=en

Finally, Scott Guthrie blogged yesterday that the source servers are currently being deployed and this feature should be turned on in a few weeks:

Although my question was asked earlier, it wasn't answered.  Specifically, is there a "full install" version of the Framework 3.0 SP1?  While I can update machines connected to the internet, I cannot update machines that are isolated (intentionally) from such exposure.

Thanks,

John

Hi John

I think what you are looking for is available here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/F/E/8FEEE89D-9E4F-4BA3-993E-0FFEA8E21E1B/NetFx30SP1_x86.exe

Sorry it's not so discoverable on the web site.

Thanks to my colleagues Josef and Phil for finding this.

Hey Doug,

Ed Maurer posted some worrisome information around a change in behaviour by the C# compiler with .NET 2.0 SP1 at http://blogs.msdn.com/ed_maurer/archive/2007/12/14/nxcompat-and-the-c-compiler.aspx. Apparently, the new binaries produced with the updated compiler are marked as NX-compatible, causing trouble for pre-ATL80 based components. This is worrisome for people like me who still use ATL 7.1 in some COM components exposed as .NET interops.

I am wondering if any impact is expected for ASP.NET too, i.e. if the aspnet_wp.exe binary is marked with the same NX flag, thus pre-ATL80 based components may fail to run on machines with DEP on.

Can you confirm if this is true?

Thanks,

Kima

Further to my comments about the full 3.0 SP1 x86 package, someone else asked me about the x64 package.

You can find that here:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98106

I found that out by reading Aaron Ruckman's blogs post:
