Presentation Topics

· Speaker: Dennis Hayes

· Topic: Learning to program the Top Coder way
In this talk, I will give an introduction to Top Coder, then show how some of the problems are solved, concentrating on why some solutions are better than others, and making use of the languages features allow better solutions to be written faster.
Dennis Hayes has been writing software since the early 70’s. He currently writes software for the Hertzog Adult Cognition Laboratory in the Psychology Department at Georgia Tech. He has been a member of the Mono project for over six years, and is the open source editor for .NET Developer’s Journal, where he has written a monthly column on open source .NET for the last five years. He has also speaks on .NET related topics, and does independent contracting including VB6 to VB.NET and C# conversions in the Atlanta area after returning to his root after twenty years in Silicon Valley.

· Speaker: Jim Wooley
Topic: LINQ to XML
XML has become a pervasive standard for exchanging data. Previously, working with XML was a necessary evil. After years of experience, the realization was made that there must be a better way than the DOM, XPath, and XQuery. We will explore how LINQ provides a more natural means of craeting and manipulating XML.
Jim has been working with .Net since the initial PDC bits in 2000, releasing his first application 1 week before the .Net 1.0 go-live. He is always striving to stay at the forefront of technology and enjoys the thrill of a new challenge. In addition, he attempts to pass on the insights he has gained by being active in the community, including leading the Atlanta VB Study Group and serving as INETA Membership Manager for the Georgia region.

We will be meeting at the Microsoft Regional Headquarters at the Sanctuary Park complex in Alpharetta (Mansell Rd. Exit). The meeting begins at 6 PM so folks can mingle, however the announcements and presentations are not scheduled to begin until 6:30 PM.
