For Jim Huddleston

In my email I have had hundreds of messages over the last year from Jim Huddleston, the editor at Apress who initiated the two F# books currently in the works. Jim passed away last Sunday. Although I never met Jim face to face we had become close friends through our work together, and this is a great loss to me, to the other authors working on the books, to the computer publishing world more generally, but most especially to his partner Judi and those who knew him face-to-face.

Some of Jim's closest friends took the time to email me this week to say how much this part of his work had meant to him. It is a great honour that Jim's involvement with the project brought him a sense of satisfaction, and we will both miss him and benefit from his energies for many years to come.

I've only just found out and I'm lost for words. He did talk about F# and, more particularly, you and your work all the time. I guess you already know how excited you made him.

I can't believe he's gone. He was a great man. I know one of his greatest endeavours was his translation work - I wish I had his lingustic skills to finish what he started, in his honor.

Mr. Huddleston's style and effective communication on paper will certainly be missed.  Kindest regards and condolences to his family and friends.
