I have a question about the site definition. We are trying to create an internet site where different users from different locations can share their information on an internet site. We want to use workflow for approving and document management for archiving the documents. Can you better use the Publishing Portal or the Collaboration template. I can't seem to find any information about the differences and the choices you have to make and what consequences they do have.

maybe you can help? Many tnx, Joost

Building tylerbutler.com, Part 5: Final Touches

Building tylerbutler.com, Part 5: Final Touches

I have successfully procured, setup and deployed two different platforms for two different clients since its release. My new task is for a much smaller deployment and design of a solution using WSS 3.0

I do have 1 nagging gribe as it relates to WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007. First, I understand the entire redesign was for supporting re-usability of ASP.NET 2.0 compatible web parts. This is to share the re-usable parts between pages. I know, ECM and Workflow too.

But I'm learning that certain web parts are not available under WSS 3.0. Such as the Content by Query Web Part.

This web part is a MUST have on any SharePoint deployment. It gives direct access to site collection listings, and can bring together multiple lists based on its common Content Type, and there is nothing equivalent that can be used.

I've been a MS developer for 15 years, and making this strictly part of the Publishing Assembly will require people to purchase MOSS and all the needed CAL's. Why can't this be part of the open architecture of Web Parts?

Anyway, I'm done griping. Great job on MOSS BTW. WSS 3.0 leaves much to be desired.

Building tylerbutler.com, Part 5: Final Touches

Building tylerbutler.com, Part 5: Final Touches
