I would be interested to know from one web developer to another why SharePoint was deemed the correct choice for such a project.

Should SharePoint be used for public facing websites? To make my point I would like to draw you attention to the following. Open the site in your web browser, looks nice! but now open the site in a users browser who perhaps uses Firefox, oops!

Also, You have javascript errors. Sorry I know its not nice when someone points out the faults in your work. I am simply trying to highlight certain considerations and please see this as constructive criticism.

SharePoint is described as a "collaborative portal application ", I can see that admin staff callaborate on the content and the work flow built into SharePoint is perfect for web content management but sharepoint doesnt really lend itself to being a good presentation plateform.

I welcome opposing views.

I work for a consultancy agency specializing in MCMS, MOSS, etc. and we have found that a lot of custom tools for automaticly deploying lists, content types, etc etc are to be written in order to deploy. This is quite time consuming and takes away time from the project that could be used to give the customer some extra value for the money.

A lot of our customers run managed hosting environments, meaning that we have no access what so ever to production servers or even staging servers at times.

I would also really like to see an example of deploying lists that are connected through lookup-fields. We haven't found any nice solutions other that writing some code that actually creates these look-up fields programmatically when the feature is activated.

re: Moving from design to reality - building HedKandi.com in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

..Rather helpful information you have here. I'm curious, though, at the end, there is mention of the blog comments design pattern and you state that "When viewing a blog post, a ListView and ListForm webparts are used to provide a view of the comments and a form to allow users to post new comments. This form automatically populates the lookup column with the correct Post." I've been trying to sort out how to duplicate this pattern on some of my own lists, and I can't seem to get these forms to automatically populate the lookup column. Tinkering with the blog site in MOSS, I think there is actually some magic buried in a template in the ListForm or maybe in one of the properties of the webpart. Can anyone provide some more concrete pointers on how to get this pattern to work?
