re: Announcing the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification

@ Andy:

CMIS is complementary to other flexible schema database projects from Microsoft, like SQL Server Data Services, because their underlying "domain models" operate at different conceptual levels.

CMIS' domain model is designed to map directly onto an Enterprise Content Management system like SharePoint -- so it exposes concepts like document/folder hierarchies, a versioning model for documents, etc. SQL Server Data Services' (SSDS) data model is designed to map onto any database -- and therefore includes only more generic/lower-level concepts like entities and containers.

So for interacting with content in an ECM system, developers will often find it more convenient to use APIs like CMIS which lets them interact with those higher-level concepts.

And there are also many enabling technologies projects (from both Microsoft and elsewhere), that can potentially be leveraged by CMIS and other standards efforts. Examples of these include Atom as a protocol, Astoria for easier development against Web Services, etc. We definitely worked to incorporate/support these projects where appropriate in CMIS (e.g. our use of ATOM), and will continue to do so in future versions as well.

- Ethan.

re: Announcing the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification

Are there any plans for Microsoft to provide a connector for Interwoven in the near future?

re: Announcing the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification

CMIS: Enterprise Content Management (ECM) interoperability

re: Announcing the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification

Are there any CMIS implementation for Sharepoint?
