Web Test Recorder bar not showing up

We’ve seen an odd problem on some machines where the initial user on Vista 64 doesn’t work. The work around is to delete your user settings, then the problem goes away.

  1. Go to control panel
  2. Open system
  3. Click advanced
  4. Click User Profiles
  5. Find yours and delete it
  6. Log back into the machine with your account and create a web test.

We've seen sporadic reports on VS 2005 where the recorder bar comes up but is disabled. One fix is to reset your IE settings (above approach will work for this). In this post Darren Blackett narrowed his problem down to setting this registry key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\BrowseNewProcess] "BrowseNewProcess"="yes"
