CTPs and Such

Hopefully, everyone is downloading and checking out the Windows Embedded Standard CTP release. We have already received and are looking forward to receiving more great feedback from the community. For those of you who attended TechEd 2008 Developer week and stopped by our booth and/or attended my breakout session, thank you and “hello” again.

With the completion of my TechEd 2008 duties and the release of the Windows Embedded Standard CTP it seems that I have a few moments to check out a CTP release besides our own, the XNA Game Studio 3.0 CTP. If you are not familiar with XNA Game Studio, it is a simple but powerful framework for writing games in C#. It is on the same technical level as Managed DirectX but is a complete framework for game development. It would have been great to have this available back when I was teaching game development. It is worth pointing out that the XNA Team is currently running a contest for Xbox 360 game development and I hear that we are giving away an Xbox 360 as a part of our CTP release.

The 3.0 release of XNA Game Studio adds the ability to write games for the Zune in addition to the already supported PC and Xbox 360 platforms. As usual, I will start out writing some really lame graphics demos, but if I put my kid’s faces in the demos they will think they are really cool. You can download the XNA Game Studio 3.0 CTP release and get more details at creators.xna.com, but be sure to check out the Windows Embedded Standard CTP first.
