All good stuff.. but its not the cowboy coders I worry about as much the cowboy Account Managers that have the customer's ear and continually fill it with unfeasible promises. Fulfilling customer needs is paramount, but elevating their expectations beyond the capabilities of your development team does noting but harm to everyone. Moving them out is too humane.. I would advocate lynching.

I tell the students on my programming courses two things on this matter:

"Programming is the Science of the Happy Ending". What you want at the end of a project is a happy customer and the right amount of money in your pocket for doing the job. Everything you do in the project should focus on these outcomes.

"About the nicest thing that a customer can say about a program is 'It works and it does what I want'."
