That's where data graphics comes in. Data graphics is a new technology we are introducing in Visio 12 that provides

re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

Great article! I’m interesting in performance and end-user customization, please discuss the refresh rate of data graphics and the amount of customization allowed with data linking.

Thanks
re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

Ray,
Actually I would have expected you to ask about the customization of data graphics and the refresh rate of data linking, so I'm curious about what you meant by the reverse in your comment.

Data Graphics refresh whenever the data in the shapes changes. Data Link is the feature that performs the shape data updates after refreshing from a data source. Are you thinking about real-time data scenarios?

re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

This indeed is one feature that would be widely used. I am wondering if Visio team has enabled it such that 3rd parties could develop their own widgets to use. Any information will be encouraging. Thanks.
re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

Yes, 3rd parties can create their own data graphics. They are simply shapes that have a special signature that Visio can interpret.

We'll be providing in-depth explanations for this content as we get closer to release, but it can be as simple as adding a few User-defined cells to your custom widget shape.

re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

Hi Erick,

Excellent article, i have a question for you. If the data you're going to visualize on the shape have to be preprocess (any operation with all the rows like a sum or something like that) could I do that?

Maybe programming a custom formula? I know that you can make custom formulas but, could i do any operation with all of the rows in the external data window?

Thanks in advance.

Visio 2007 Beta 2 Publicly Available

Along with the rest of the 2007 Office system, Visio 2007 Beta 2 is now available for public download...

re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

I must say I like this feature, has any information regarding creating your own icon sets been released?

Thanks!

Visio 2007: Value Stream Mapping

Over the last several years, we have seen Lean become more and more prominent as a process improvement...

Visio 2007: Customizing Data Graphic Items

After spending a couple days chatting with people here at TechEd, I am amazed at how many people have...

re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

Can you blog about real-time scenarios. We are looking for a graphic engine that has this capability. Rather than a periodic refresh, is there a way to signal that new data has arrived?

re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

Is there a way to add dato to a link/connector rather than a shape? For example, if I had a network diagram, I would like to add service provider information to the link

re: Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

Is there a way to control the size of the data graphic. I am using a number of icons to give a traffic light indication on the status of project elements and need to make the default size smaller.

Regards,

Geoff.

Actors and Actresses » Archive du blog » Visio 12 - Eric Rockey : Data Graphics: visualizing data on your diagram

PingBack from http://actors.247blogging.info/?p=3548
