Silverlight bits and bobs - beta 2, full trust, mobile, showcase
Silverlight continues to be a hot topic in our meetings with ISVs. The following is a fairly random set of links that have been helpful in one way or another in those architectural discussions: How to make a full trust Silverlight application running

And now...the end is near...
In the MSDN Flash June 25th issue my colleague Mike gave his farewell. His mention of a typewriter has inadvertently reminded me of a great story from my early days of playing around with computers - but I will save that for "Editor's Intro"

Eric will be appearing in person...
I have created a page with my future "gigs" listed - all an opportunity to see some Visual Basic, chuckle when I add a semicolon and pull me up on it if I do C# from start to finish :-) For the moment it is just a simple list but it is crying

A glimpse inside our new Data Centers
Caught my eye. An article on our new $550million Data Centers. Handy when your strategy is Software + Services (lots of them!) :-) http://www.informationweek.com/shared/printableArticle.jhtml?articleID=208403723

Silverlight Deepzoom in the wild
Silverlight Deepzoom has come up in a number of ISV meetings through June - and it is sparking new thinking. Check out these to see if you too will be inspired to come up with a great use for Deepzoom. http://www.laguna-coupe.com/ http://memorabilia.hardrock.com/

Free Mini-SPA July 11th in the UK
No, not something you sit down in and be pampered. Well technically you do... SPA2008 is a great multi day conference and each year they take the best sessions and make them into a free 1 day taster. Highly recommended (if you fancy a chance to mingle

Hyper-V - looking good...
I sit in a group made up of devs (and ex-devs) and infrastructure folks. While "my half" looks forward to new releases of the .NET Framework the other half seem to get all excited about stuff without an API - surely everything has an API!? They

Still confused by Data Mining? (I know I am)
Which is why I thought I would point you at this great video resource. You may well get to use it before I do (I think I have my hands full learning to code again - but I have started to skim them). These sessions were presented to 20 Countries across

Top 5 questions in my last year working with ISV early adopters
As I get ready to transition role, I find myself increasingly thinking "what happened in the last 12 months that would be useful to take into the next 12 months". One of the great bits about my current role is I spend a lot of time 1:1 in day

Obfuscation - and pesky strings
A friend of a friend asked "When .NET code is compiled a program called Reflector can be used to decompile the binary file in to its original code. I understand there are tools called Obfuscators that will make the code harder to read, but it can

NxtGenUG Fest08 simply rocked!!!
I really enjoyed last Thursday - what a fantastic event. There were plenty of great sessions throughout the day, huge amounts of fun and lots of top people to chat with during breaks etc. I only wish I could have freed up more of my day to stay in the

Maybe see you at NxtGenUG Fest08 in Reading on Thursday 12th?
I love to put faces to names (not least because I am terrible with names but pretty decent with faces!). I am doing a short 10minute intro as part of the keynote of Fest08 tomorrow and hope to work in the back of the room as much as possible during the

Visual Basic remains incredibly popular - but don't just take my word for it
I see in my travels lots of developers using C# - but I also see plenty doing Visual Basic .NET, just not quite as many. I have been attempting to get a better feel for just how many folks are using which - and have been using highly scientific techniques

No Internet!? Camtasia to the rescue
I am glad I decided to attend Software Architect 2008 the day before my session. Why? Simple - there is no Internet access in the room and I planned to show a number of demos which require access. These included Woodgrove Bank Silverlight demonstrator,
