Happy 2009! (and a spot of retail therapy)
Hi all, I am just back from two weeks holiday. My spirits are high. I am looking forward to getting stuck into lots of new projects and ideas for 2009. There is oodles of technology to play with. I have some great chrimbo presents that still need my attention

The perfect Christmas present for your kids - a new release of Small Basic
I have previously blogged on Small Basic and only this week snuck it into a session I was doing on Parallel Programming (It is the time of year when you can get away with that sort of stuff!). This is a great way for anyone to learn how to program - my

Merry Christmas
Have a great Christmas It is nearly my last day before I start my Christmas holidays - which means I have just enough time to play around with Xbox Live avatars and come up with this. Have a great Christmas and an amazing New Year.

Something for your Christmas stocking - the "Daniel Moth 2009 Community Calendar"
Daniel Moth was originally a Developer Evangelist in Microsoft UK before leaving to join the Parallel Programming team. Daniel was a top technologist, a great presenter, a bit of a character and ... fondly admired by the UK developer community. The UK

Time to add some holly to twitter
Over in the world of twitter.com people have a chance to attach a tiny image to their profile which ultimately gets displayed alongside their tweets. Two days back I spotted Ian had change his image and was now sporting a rather festive Father Christmas

Microsoft releases yet another programming language - Introducing Small Basic
Wow. I love this. This brings back all the great memories I had (even of the bugs) of how I first got into writing software using BASIC on the ZX80. My kids have already given it a massive thumbs up. First a big thanks to Vijaye for creating this in his

A new version of Hard Rock Memorabilia – and my new favourite zoom
Last Friday we did a re-run of the MSDN Roadshow in London and MikeT covered off Silverlight, including a demo of deep zoom using the Hardrock site. I hadn’t realised the site had recently been updated to include over 500 items – but what I liked was

Just back from holiday … and PDC session #1 = Babysmash
I had a great week rebuilding the bank of a stream, watching the neighbour butcher a deer in his garden and learning what it feels like to be out walked by my 16 year old son up a mountain (which he called a hill!). A holiday was my way of handling missing

Offtopic – Fancyaferret.co.uk
The very first domain I registered was fancyaferret.co.uk. This was many years back and TBH the reason now escapes me. The first thing I did with it was place an image of David Cassidy up on it – which is another story all together. Anyway – my lovely

Manic Miner in Silverlight
Richard popped me an email about his latest “project” - a Silverlight implementation of Manic Miner which he has developer with Pete McGann. This is a very polished game but the cool bit is – they will be discussing how they developed it at NxtGenUG Coventry

Oh no…. my poll is going entirely wrong!!!
My poll is showing completely the wrong results. Surely there can not be more Amiga fans in the UK than Atari?! Did they all appear after I left my Atari for dead and replaced it with BSD Unix? Or … does it just prove my point. The Amiga guys always felt

7 days of sun – I guess that is it until next year
I had a great break over at my sisters new home in Spain. I got to know her 12 cats (!!!), her Spanish neighbours (who are the Spanish equivalent of The Waltons ) and the local vino pretty well. The weather was amazing, the mountains were great to walk

Windows Vista vs Apple Macintosh? Nah – Atari vs Amiga is the real question.
I spotted Mike had posted on Windows Vista and that we find ourselves in a strange place. We have a product that is way better than the perception amongst “those in the know”. First up – I really was not a fan of Vista on day one of release. I had a lot

You may have spotted that the others in my team have caricatures – well, mine just landed in my Inbox. Cripes – is that really me? I look so … geeky :-)

The more I learn, the more I don't know...
Or to put it another way - my head is about to explode... Ok - In real terms I am on day 9 of my new role and my return to being a developer. I have learnt the following: I am very much enjoying looking at code again I am currently terrible at writing
