Manic Miner in Silverlight

Richard popped me an email about his latest “project” - a Silverlight implementation of Manic Miner which he has developer with Pete McGann. This is a very polished game but the cool bit is – they will be discussing how they developed it at NxtGenUG Coventry

Oh no…. my poll is going entirely wrong!!!

My poll is showing completely the wrong results. Surely there can not be more Amiga fans in the UK than Atari?! Did they all appear after I left my Atari for dead and replaced it with BSD Unix? Or … does it just prove my point. The Amiga guys always felt

7 days of sun – I guess that is it until next year

I had a great break over at my sisters new home in Spain. I got to know her 12 cats (!!!), her Spanish neighbours (who are the Spanish equivalent of The Waltons ) and the local vino pretty well. The weather was amazing, the mountains were great to walk

Windows Vista vs Apple Macintosh? Nah – Atari vs Amiga is the real question.

I spotted Mike had posted on Windows Vista and that we find ourselves in a strange place. We have a product that is way better than the perception amongst “those in the know”. First up – I really was not a fan of Vista on day one of release. I had a lot

Is this really me?

You may have spotted that the others in my team have caricatures – well, mine just landed in my Inbox. Cripes – is that really me? I look so … geeky :-)

The more I learn, the more I don't know...

Or to put it another way - my head is about to explode... Ok - In real terms I  am on day 9 of my new role and my return to being a developer. I have learnt the following: I am very much enjoying looking at code again I am currently terrible at writing

NxtGenUG Fest08 simply rocked!!!

I really enjoyed last Thursday - what a fantastic event. There were plenty of great sessions throughout the day, huge amounts of fun and lots of top people to chat with during breaks etc. I only wish I could have freed up more of my day to stay in the

Call of Duty 4 meets folder virtualization on Vista

Call of Duty 4 is a great game - but just occasionally, it trashes all your progress which is held locally. The answer is to copy your progress somewhere safe. On Windows XP you need to backup the players folder which contains progress for all user logins.

Made me smile :-) Ballmer at Mix

At Microsoft's Mix08 event in Las Vegas, Steve Ballmer did a Q&A which was just great to watch. He went head to head with former Apple evangelist Guy Kawasaki (wih MacBook in the obligatory brown envelope). The most amusing bit starts 26minutes into

Windows HPC Server meets video games

I have previously posted on High Performance Computing and what it may mean to ISVs. Currently two of my ISVs are getting very active with the beta of Windows HPC Server 2008 in the area of Financial Services which is exciting - but not nearly as exciting

Does Microsoft create amazing technology - you bet it does!

I often get hit with "Microsoft only copies the stuff that other people have already invented". Well - I think there are clear examples of our being second (or third or fourth or...) to market - but I also think we do some great original stuff out of

Are you UK based, old and slow - and fancy a little Monday night online gaming fun with us?

A few years back we had a nice little online PC FPS (if you read that as frames per second then read no further...) gaming club on Monday nights made up of a few UK Microsoft staff, real life friends and folks in ISVs we were working with. Since then

A great Christmas, a great New Year and now.... great WinFX games :)

Hi all - apologies for the gap in posts - I set myself up for a lengthy couple of weeks holiday over Christmas (marvellous!!!) and have been busy so far in January finishing off some work on SQL and VS early adoption as well as starting to plan out our

At last - time for a holiday!

So I will be quiet for a week - and nope - I won't be taking a PC with me (although my excellent gprs enabled pocket pc means work is never quite as far away as it should be!) Thinking of you...

I traditionally in my gaming blogs used http://www.bloggar.com - very good, but the released version does not support .Text although support is scheduled for V4. I have received several recommendations to try out http://blogjet.com - and yep this is my
