Conference for Tablet users?

First Loren wants a Tablet only conference and then Peter shoots it down since it would really be a Notebook conference.  I actually like the idea of a Tablet conference, but think that there wouldn't necessarily ever be a dedicated conference for Tablets in general -- but believe me I have no inside knowledge on this, just a gut feeling.  However I could believe that there might be value in having mini-conferences (e.g. a workshop) for things like developing recognition engines or maybe on building effective interfaces for the pen.

Remember I'm in no position to actually make this dream come true, but I'd be interested in hearing what people actually would want if a Tablet Conference did exist?  What would you want to learn about?  What would make it worth your while to attend?

Okay I'm interested in knowing above, but what I really want to know is what would make a conference about Mobility (i.e. Laptops including Tablets) valuable?  Where are the areas that you feel like you don't know about?  What are the topics that you think make it hard to use a Mobile PC or would make a Mobile PC more useful?

Good question, that's why I want to know what people are really interested in

Ah ha! Now I know why I received 20 emails from Peter this evening - at the same time he was writing his blog post ;) Anyhow - don't let him fool you - he is all for the idea of a purposeful, functional, productive, and fun gathering.

Wouldn't necessarily ever be a dedicated conference for Tablets in general? Why not? They have conferences for Pocket PC, for SmartPhones, for Embedded Devices and for other off-shoot product lines with far less potential footprints than Tablets or "Mobile PCs" as is the new buzzword. A Tablet Conference seems only natural. Tablet PC Fanfest slash Showcase? Seems basic common sense to me. :)

What would people want to learn about? Ummmm Tablets or in reductional mode "Pen Interfaces". :) Most people haven't ever SEEN them much less used. You can talk about them and demo them until blue in face, and people don't get it, UNTIL they use it. Quite viral ONCE in hands. But why call it a "Conference". More a showcase, over a pure Tech Conference. Learn about the raft of ISV software, see in action, chance to play around with various models. Learn new developments, see 2005 in action. Hear from OEMs. Meet up with fellow Influentials and Community Members, create a community unto itself. Things happen when people communicate.

If all mini-conference based on just "Pen-interfaces" and numbling churning Developeresespeak ("developing recognition engines "or "building effective interfaces") and tossing it all into the general "Mobility" mix and low-level promoted with low attendence figures, like the last raft of Tours, then DOA. Tablets are an emgering product, not yet Commodity or a Mature market. Approach as such. :)
