Running at Microsoft Part 2

That's it... this is the last time I blog about something that I really enjoy or a great benefit that exists.  Today we've been informed that one of the great perks that we've had is going away... Luckily it's not the free soda, but for me it's actually worse -- towels.  Seems that as of July 1, we'll no longer have towels supplied in the locker rooms.  To me this is a great loss.  Now if I want to work out during lunch, I'll have to make sure to bring a towel for afterwards.  If I'm going to bike into work, I'll have to bring one along or make sure that I have my own fresh supply at work.  And it was just last week that I wrote about this topic, it makes me feel like someone's reading my blog and figuring out what they can do to wreck havoc :-)!

At least you'll always have to take a towel - i.e. you have consistency.

At my own golf club they have towels; places to hang clothes; and (if you want) free lockable storage. Naturally you get used to this.

You then go to another more money-oriented club and there are not only no towels but you are forced to lock away your clothes in a chargeable locker (which swallows the money as you later find out when you open it) as there is no other alternative.

As Ford Prefect said "Towels are the most useful thing it is possible to have handy in a crisis." So you should have one with you anyway ;).

How about all the exercisers go on a one week no-shower protest ?

Hmmm, I never knew we had lockerrooms on campus. I always used the Pro Club (which we still get for free).

Wow.. the threads inside MSFT keep going and going... maybe I'll strip out all the names and post one here.

ProClub is great when you want to dedicate a whole bunch of time to it, plus it's not as easy if you're going to go running. There are some nice trails right around MSFT, but given that they haven't been doing as much maintenance on them, they'll surely go the way of the towels.

And if I'm not blogging enough about it, then you can go here.. http://weblogs.asp.net/korbyp/archive/2004/06/24/164918.aspx

Okay... so it turns out to be a 250K savings for only about 1000 people who use or (probably even knew the benefit existed). So I'm keeping a bevy of towels in the back of my car now :-)
