Going Back to the Topic of Functions For a Moment…

A few weeks back I wrote several posts on the improvements we have made to Excel’s function library. I’d now like to share with you a draft of a whitepaper we are planning to release when Excel 2010 ships. The whitepaper describes all of the improvements we are making.  It also includes detailed descriptions of the new algorithms used. The whitepaper contains much of what I have included in my previous posts; however, it also contains some more detailed information, especially in regards to the function accuracy improvements.

Please note this is not a final document and may change due to modifications we make prior to the release of Excel 2010.  The whitepaper is attached at the bottom of this post.

When I take a look at the PDF. I see more of algebric functionalities made more accurate. Also please provide an insight as to additional features, general functions made easier etc.

Thanks

IMHO, one of the most useful functions in excel is =LOOKUP, because it doesn't require the kooky offset parameter that =VLOOKUP and =HLOOKUP require.  But, it lacks a parameter for doing an exact match, which would be both easy and useful.

also, it wasn't clear to me how the IRR and XIRR functions are being improved.  As to the XIRR, it would be great if you could use a different daycount convention besides the Actual/365 which is the default.

What I would like to see in this PDF is the actual function names, ie localized, not the English function names.

And while I'm at it, why not post the localized function names for all built-in Excel 2010 functions, not just new ones?

Thanks.
