The key functionality of Excel Services it the ability to calculate and render spreadsheets authored in Excel 12. This is very different from IBF which is a developer tool for building solutions connecting Office client applications to back-end data systems. Does that help?

Anon, since Excel Services is built on the SharePoint products and technologies platform, it will not be possible to run Excel Services in isolation. I am not 100% sure what you mean by inproc - inproc with what? I can assure you that we are working hard to ensure that the server meets enterprise class robustness and availability. The server will not support VBA.

John and dten, the server will support managed code user-defined functions. We do not support VBA or macros on the server. The server does have the web services API for additional programmability scenarios.

David, for this release there is no direct OM, just the web services interface. You should be able to use the latter to call on spreadsheet calculation from your own applications. We will have a post on this soon.
re: Excel Services - Architecture

David,

In view of what You write they are two different concepts so yes it clear the picture for me :)

Thank You,
Dennis

Tech Talk PT » Blog Archive » BI in Office 2007 Resources

PingBack from http://techtalkpt.wordpress.com/2006/04/28/bi-in-office-2007-resources/

The real Web Spreadsheet: SocialText + WikiCalc?

Amidst all the buzz that Google’s Web Spreadsheet has been generating, Rod Boothby has an&nbsp;insightful...

B2TR changes to UDFs in Excel Services

In previous posts, I described how UDFs work and what they are useful for.
