New Web Setup Installer is now online

We have published the new web setup installers for Express SKUs. The new versions of installers should resolve the majority of the download issues we have seen reported. Please give it a try!

Please read the know issues docuement before you start the installation process. We are actively working on getting them fixed for our Beta2 release. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your patience.

Please make the software downloadable!

In many countries - eg. Australia - we pay by the megabyte for downloads so downloading during install means we can't use the software.

We need to download on one PC and install on another. Downloading hundreds of megabytes is OK, as long as we can resume http or ftp.

Can you please give us the direct link to the MSDN Express installer so that we can install it if we, say, didn't install it because the installer was crashing during download?

still crashes for me after downloading the full 26mb (c# express). It works fine at home, it seems to be a proxy issue, which is pretty frustrating as I want to try it here at work. Why doesn't it store a .part style file with the contents of the download? Crashed 5 times now, 1 hour for each retry to download

Why not make it possible to download full installers as files so that they can be downloaded once with a download utility that can resume and be installed on multiple machines? I for one can't download at work although I was able to download the ISO image from the MSDN Subscribers area at home last night.

After downloading the express web installer, it should ask whether user wants to download the files manually, if the user wants to do manually, then it should provide up to date links and steps. Of course I guess for the beta you want people to test the web installer before providing other options..

FYI, the full ISO downloads on MSDN for C++ Express and C# Express are swapped, meaning you go download VC# Express and the iso, even tho the filename is correct, the content of the ISO is C++ Express. The VC# Express ISO should be around 260mb and VC++ Express 297mb, for those who have subs before they correct this.

Hm, I ran the installer for VC++ Express, it downloaded 300Mb or so, rebooted for the new .NET framework, and would now appear to be downloading stuff again?

At least, its showing a very slow "please wait whilst resources are copied to your temp folder" dialog, and I'm seeing lots of connections to "go2.microsoft.com"

Thank you all for the feedback. Here are a couple of points that I would like to address:
(1) We really appreciate if you can use the installer and send us feedback so we can improve for our next release. For example, we will be considering adding the function to enable the user to save packages for later use per your feedback. Your feedback will make the difference!
(2) Using the direct links to install the product haven't been through our regular test pass. If you want to have the ability to save the packages for later use or couldn't get the download to work due to proxy setting requires a password...etc, we will be offering the option for you to receive CDs. The information will be posted to the Express SKU download page after July 4th holiday.

Thank you again for your feedback. We are taking notes and will address these issue in our Beta2 release.

Thanks,
Annie.

I'm currently investigating the source of the download failures. If you have had problems downloading please contact me.

I will need the %windir%\system32\bits.log and bits.bak files.

I started the download of VC++ with MSDN Express. The total size was 199 MB. After 164MB downloaded (VC Express was done) the remaining was for the MSDN, it got cancelled automatically and I checked the option for Save Setup files for resuming. Now I can't find where VC was installed and when I click setup again it starts from begining.

The last time I tried to install Visual Basic Express, it downloaded the 2.0 Framework and the Visual Basic Express. It happily installs them and reports them complete. After I check, I only found the 2.0 Framework and not the VB Express. I downloaded again to get it. :( Maybe it has been solved after the newer installer is released. I haven't tried with that yet.
