Finserv Developers Conference Highlights Risk and Compliance
Nope, New York Attorney General Elliot Spitzer isn’t on the program at Microsoft’s financial services developers’ conference April 24-25 in New York – he’s probably too busy campaigning for governor.
But risk and compliance are top of the agenda, said Mike Wons, financial industry technologist specialist at Microsoft. From Basel II to Sarbanes-Oxley, document management and retention, and credit risk, the sessions will cover the key topics confronting financial services today, along with suggestions on ways technology can be used to meet the challenges.
“Enterprise risk management and compliance are seeing a huge spending increase,” said Wons, “so we decided this had to be a key focus on the conference.” Firms are spending 30 to 35 percent of their IT budgets on risk and compliance. In the face of complexity over issues such as email retention, some are giving up on making decisions and just saving everything – a choice that will lead to huge storage costs and might actually increase the risk they face in the future.
Although the conference is sold out, Microsoft does have a waiting list. See
