Among the latest bits of news -- Excel 2007 which can run on a server, meet the scalability demands of the largest enterprise and distribute spreadsheets without losing control of them. This takes Excel from the desktop to an enterprise solution with the power and controls needed for compliance and auditing. SQL Server now has both the power and the toolset for the enterprise, including key diagnostics that can run during production, not to mention a host of new business intelligence capabilities built into the package and accessible through Excel and Word.

High performance computing from Digipede, demonstrations of next generation ATMs, and the latest reality check on the Insurance Value Chain, which is rapidly gaining group after years of hard work, will all be in New York.

This won’t be the Microsoft product guys presenting their generic slide set, Wons said. The conference will have a strong vertical focus and show developers how the latest and greatest from Redmond can make them heroes in their firms.

Goodies. Did we mention goodies? An Xbox 360, a PDA, and a SmartPhone are among the prizes for developers who visit the partner booths and get their tickets punched.

            See you there.
