I HATE the Presidential Debates !!!

I really hope that I am not alone in this line of thought, but I really hate the Presidential Debates.  I did debate back in secondary school and college, and to call these things "debates" is an insult to pillow and tickle fights everywhere.

I don't know how anyone could make an educated decision about the election with this tripe.  The format and short strung together sound bites are an insult to even the average American's intelligence.  There is nothing that this debate delivers that you couldn't get by watching the news clips of the campaign trail.

No, give me a good Lincoln-Douglas style debate and not this namby pamby Q&A.  A good sound, well reasoned, and deep interchange of positions and statements.  If these candidates REALLY feel these things in their hearts (as they say) then they would have no problem with the other person grilling them in that Lincoln-Douglas format.  At this point don't the American people deserve that depth?

Oh, and BTW, "my" candidate won the pillow fight.  :-)

Agreed. These “debates” are a travesty, a sham, and a mockery. They’re a traveshamockery. :)

I'm with you my brother. (And I use that term literally.) There are two formats that would please me: (1) they sit down and the candidates ask the questions of each other until the questions are answered; or (2) Get the most partisan bulldog (but intelligent) democrat out there to question Bush and get the most partisan attack dog republican out there to question Kerry, and don't stop till the questions are answered.

Yeah, that would be cool. I think that one of my issues also (the control freak in me talking here) is also this loose format. Doing as you say WITH the L-D structure would be cool. What I don't like is how the current format really is done for entertainment value. This is our GOVERNMENT, it's a business, let's see a business plan, a structure, and debate it the same way. I love that term....traveshamockery.
