3d sketching on the Tablet PC

This is real cool, Arin pointed us to the work Cornell Computational Synthesis group is doing around freehand sketching. The project is called 3-D Journal and it’s a demonstration of live sketching, written specifically for TablePC in C#.

The site at Cornell is here make sure you check out the movie tutorial, it’s worth the 3 minutes…

Thats really cool. I've always enjoyed drawing in 3D and isometric, so its amazing that your drawing can practically come alive on the screen so easily. This would have been a great choice for the "Does your app think in ink" contest.

I've been very impressed by looking at SketchUp http://www.sketchup.com which does the same sort of thing, except it is not designed for tablet PCs and is not as freeform. Sketchup uses line inference to determine which axis you are drawing onto and provides lots of visual clues to help you make sure your lines stay in perspective and on the same axis.

It would be good if sketchup could move more in the direction of this program, but still retain its unique features.
