Good luck on your venture.

Some of my colleagues in China have been reluctant to make SaaS applications part of their business processes due to the distance-induced delay problems they experience. Have you experienced the same obstacle? If so, what measures do you take to remedy?

Fred's response: Yes, I've heard this one before. This issue has to be solved from the provider side. In one case, the SaaS ISV offering the service was sensitive to this customer concern and picked a data center in Beijing that has better bandwidth connections with rest of the country to host their services. A better (but more costly) alternative is for the SaaS ISV to have different data center distributed around major cities in the country host the application. These solutions are not perfect, but does help with reducing the latency.

re: SaaS in China

Hi Fred,

Great post! Thank you for sharing the insight of China SaaS ISV industry.

I have been believing in SaaS ISV for quite a long time. My goal is to develop and establish a SaaS ISV firm that serves China market in the coming years.

Before presenting myself further, I would like to get direct contact with you first. Would you please email me back at kevindan2000#hotmail.com?

I live and work in Latam, where we have the same issue. But many people think Saas is better than having information in your company, because when the tax authority want's to find information of a company, tipically goes there an catch the PCs searching for the info. Is more difficult they know where the data is hosted. It gives companies time to "adjust" their information in their hosted application.

Doesn't sound very nice, but is the way it is.
