Seven Year Itch

Seven years ago, I was working for Hewlett-Packard on its inkjet printer drivers. Having worked on printer drivers for a few years, I felt that I knew something about GDI that other developers would like to know too, and more importantly I wanted to everything about GDI. So, on Jan, 4th, 1999, my birthday, I wrote an email to HP Press proposing to write an in-depth book about GDI. 23 months later, the book finally appeared on the shelf.

Yesterday, Jan 4th, 2006, exactly 7 years later, I walked into the office of Ben Ryan of Microsoft Press.

Even though your book came a little bit too late for me (I wrote my first printer driver in 1992 back in the Windows 3.xx days and today still in charge with printer driver development), I enjoyed reading it. I had the same idea about writing a book (even now there are not to many books about GDI and graphics in general) back in 2000 but didn't get my employer to buy into (sponsor) it.

Looking forward to read your new book,
Dan.
