The books will be ready in about 4 weeks.

Proposal of purchase for a tiny piece of real estate

Just finished writing first draft of a proposal of purchase, for a tiny piece of real estate, 8 square inch, 9.5-inch high ceiling, on your book shelf.

Sell your copy of Windows Graphics Programming: Win32 GDI and DirectDraw

Just before the new year, I noticed a copy of my book was listed on amazon.com for $160 (the listing price of the book is $60). A few days ago when I checked again, it was gone. Some poor guy or poor company paid more than double the original price of the book.

Today, two copies of the book were listed on Amazon, one for $250, and another for $260: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0130869856/.

So, if you happened to have the book and do not need it anymore, sell it. Just to reduce the crazy price.

For the moment, I'm talking to Prentice Hall PTR about re-printing it. Hopefully something can be worked out.

Seven Year Itch

Seven years ago, I was working for Hewlett-Packard on its inkjet printer drivers. Having worked on printer drivers for a few years, I felt that I knew something about GDI that other developers would like to know too, and more importantly I wanted to everything about GDI. So, on Jan, 4th, 1999, my birthday, I wrote an email to HP Press proposing to write an in-depth book about GDI. 23 months later, the book finally appeared on the shelf.

Yesterday, Jan 4th, 2006, exactly 7 years later, I walked into the office of Ben Ryan of Microsoft Press.
