Updater Application Block V2.0 Release 3/21/2005

Block V2.0 is a .NET component that can be used to detect, download and apply client application updates deployed in a central location. By using the Updater Application Block, you can keep smart client applications up to date with little or no user intervention. You can also extend the Updater Application Block to use custom classes for downloading files and for performing post-deployment configuration tasks.

Built upon the success of its predecessor which has been used extensively in multiple enterprise environments, and based on the feedback collected from our user communities, the new design focuses on simplification of use, adherence to the Enterprise Library specification and alignment with the upcoming .NET Framework 2.0 ClickOnce.

This version of the block provides guidance on adding self-updating capabilities to smart client applications built with the .NET Framework 1.1.  For Whidbey-based applications, you should evaluate using ClickOnce as the underlying technology to address the deployment and update challenge.
