MSDN Universal licenses registered since October 3, 2005
Microsoft deployed Athena on October 3, 2005. All existing MSDN Subscriptions licenses registered prior to October 3rd were transitioned to Athena at Visual Studio 2005 subscription levels. All benefits associated with these licenses were also transitioned.
This transition promotion allows existing MSDN Universal customers to choose one of the new Visual Studio Team System role-based editions. Registered MSDN Universal licenses were transitioned to the new system and will continue to appear as MSDN Universal.
Please note that MSDN Universal was not available to new registrations beginning October 3rd through December 9, 2005. Existing MSDN Universal licenses not registered to users as of September 22, 2005 were not transitioned into the new system as MSDN Universal. These users are required to register as one of the new Visual Studio Team Editions.
Customers wishing to evaluate Visual Studio 2005 Team System can also use Athena to register existing unregistered licenses (and future True-Up purchases) prior to making a transition selection. Effective December 9, 2005, Microsoft made MSDN Universal available to previously unregistered MSDN Universal licenses and future True-Up purchases.
Customers that maintain MSDN Universal licenses through the role-based editions may wish to have the choice of registering their licenses as MSDN Universal. Customers wishing to switch their selection (at any future point) can do so by contacting their local Volume Licensing Support Center (https://licensing.microsoft.com/eLicense/L1033/Overview.asp).
