  • Starting June 19th: Five days of ASP.NET Mobile Web Development

Creating mobile web applications with ASP.NET is so engrossing that I am spending a whole week in June talking about it. For 5 days in a row you can attend these webcasts and learn about the aspects of ASP.NET 2.0 that are geared towards building sites that target mobile devices. (This is an encore of the series I did in June of last year)

A synopsis of each day and links to register for each are below. Don't forget that attending a webcast enters you into a drawing to win 40 gigabyte Creative Zen MP3 player (official rules). Hope you can join me!

    Monday: Introduction
In this first of 5 webcasts, we’ll introduce you to the different approaches for building applications for devices, and when you would chose mobile web pages. We’ll walk through the architecture of creating mobile web applications, including adaptive rendering and device adapters. We’ll finish up with a high level look at extensibility, device filtering, templating and data access – topics covered in the rest of this webcast series.

    Tuesday: Mobile Control Bonanza
In this second of 5 webcasts, we’ll show you how to work with each of the mobile controls, including such controls as Form, Panel, Calendar, PhoneCall, TextView, various validation controls and more.

    Wednesday: Data Access and Security
In this third of 5 webcasts, we’ll examine managing data in a mobile web application with data-bound controls as well as features of ADO.NET 2.0. We’ll also examine implementing authentication and authorization in a mobile web application.

    Thursday: Customization
In this fourth of 5 webcasts, we’ll show you how to control the appearance of your user interface by using styles and StyleSheet controls. We’ll also explore customizing output on a per device basis through the use of templates and property overrides.

    Friday: Extensibility
In this fifth of 5 webcasts we will explore extending functionality by building custom mobile controls and mobile user controls. We’ll cover the steps for deriving from existing controls, creating composite controls and building controls from scratch. We’ll also show you how to implement your own control designers and device adapters.
