Hit the road Jack...

I've been meaning to blog some more about my job as a Technical Evangelist and especially about how great it's been working for Jeff Sandquist. It'll have to wait just a while longer. Jeff is hitting the road next week and getting ready to do some demo's on Team System. I promised him a list of tips for demo'ing on Beta 2. I thought I would share it for other folks now that we've gone and distributed the vpc at TechEd for customers to use in evaluation.

  • Copy your vpc onto a separate hard drive from your OS caching drive - it significantly improves performance.
  • When you are using the now single vpc for beta 2 make sure you never start it after coming out of hibernate mode on your machine. Always best to start afresh - otherwise you're likely to encounter some unexpected slow downs
  • If it's your first time firing it up it's a good idea to enable "Save State" on your vpc so that you can quickly pop in and out of the vpc without starting it all up from scratch.
  • Make sure network options on the VPC are set to "Local only"
  • Always keep a backup copy of your VPC base and any demo diff drives you are using. I like to keep mine fully extracted in another directory in case I trash the set I'm working on. It saves space but takes longer to re-extract than to pull from my backup directory on my portable drive.
  • If you're running PowerPoint in show mode just prior to demo, make sure to shut it down.

Good luck Jeff! Let us know how it goes on your blog. :-)

Happy trails,

Grace
