Comcast Warns of Loses, Blames AT&T & Verizon

An article yesterday in the NY Times reports that Comcast is expected to lose subscribers to competitors in 2008, namely AT&T and Verizon. Comcast posted a 54% drop in quarterly profits as basic subscribers drop their service.

Competition might be a big part of it, but how many people drop their service after the Sopranos finished and the premium cable channels decided to *dead-end all of their marque shows at the same time!* If you're a fan of Entourage, Big Love, Weeds, Californication, Tudors, the Wire, on and on... you are S.O.L at the moment. All you have is sports and that's what Comcast doesn't have.

Comcast, along with the Premiums (Showtime, HBO) need a strategy to keep customers during the off season and they need to do a better job of scheduling to retain customers. They also need a better offline and franchising strategy to create a more holistic business model.
