One Louder

You mean positions at Microsoft? I'm already running half a dozen job agents, so I'm set for updates. Unless of course this is a different look (sometimes the Career job descriptions are hard to understand ... they could often use spell checking...).

Don't post them where they'll get included in blogs.msdn.com or weblogs.asp.net. But, I think a feed would be a good thing. I could subscribe to it in my RSS news reader and that would let me remind my readers about interesting jobs from time to time.

I disagree with Robert. I would post them as soon as you get them.

In addition, create a seperate category for new jobs. This way, if someone (like Robert) just wants to see the new job announcements, they can just subscribe to that feed.

OK, I think I am going to just push out a couple cool ones every week. Got lots of feedback on how to do this and I appreaciate it. I don't want this to become a substitue for the job agents on the careers site. So I'm not going to send out everything. I realize though that a lot of the people readin this blog aren;t on the careers site and won't take the time to setup agents (specicically if you are not actively looking)...so I thikn this will be worthwhile.

You know what would be cool? If and when you post some of the cool "hot marketing jobs", have somebody with that title already at Microsoft do a cameo on your blog. I know this may be difficult to do, but it would be nice to get a insiders look at the positions.

Yeah go for it Heather! Although I work for a great company with whom I have a great relationship and strong committments as a programmer, the marketing MBA in me would love to see the inner-workings of Microsoft's marketing department. Scott's and Chris Boaz's ideas sound great too. It sounds like a *very* interesting read.

I would like to see them to get a feeling what a company like MS wants from "Marketing" and to see the variaty of possibilities.

Not for a direct application but perhaps for a 'ok, if you ever consider it, this is what they will expect from you'.

Reading your blog has made it clear to me that there are much more jobs at ms as I imagined. I would like to see the jobs where you thought 'wow, I must post this one' because they where special in some way. Plus a little comment why you thought so. :o)

I think news about "hot" jobs - being newer positions or roles in newer or popular groups within then company would be great! I also agree wth Scott W...maybe it would be best to create a separate RSS feed for new marketing postings, so that those interested can subscribe to that feed specifically.

Heather, that wasn't meant to discourage you. I just don't a rehash of what I'll get from my Agents :)

Also, personally I'd rather you post in your main feed than in a separate feed (as Robert suggests). Why? Because your blog is on my 'favourite' reading list. The generic blogs.msdn.com feed is on my 'read whenever you feel like scrolling for hours' list.

I'll see it sooner on yours than I will on the larger scale compilation feeds.

I'll give you my feedback after the first one is out. As long as it's more than just 'look, here's a job' I'll be happy. I'm assuming you'll pump it up, that you'll really well define what kind of people you are and aren't looking for and that you'll do a reverse of your pet peeves (ie: what bugs you about candidates likely bugs us about job descriptions)!

Jeremy-no worries and I appreciate the feedback. I realize different people want different info. And some people reading this are probably not on the careers site at all. So I understand that it may not be something everyone would want to see. Just wanted to make sure there was enough interest out there to justify the effort. And I don't want anyone to use this blog the same way they would use the career site anyway.

I'm really trying to stay away from the pet peeves thing (with the exception of my rant post). I want to try and keep it positive but sometimes I need to express an opinion. ; )

An insight into the marketing positions available at an industry leader like Microsoft might prove enlightening in other ways. Career opportunities aren't just for job seekers. They also serve a marketing function, in and of themselves.

As lay persons see the vast range of employment available, and the quality of people selected to fill them, it can serve to develop a greater confidence in Microsoft and its tremendous array of products and services.

Even a sampling of some of the available marketing and other available employment opportunities would serve that marketing goal very well.

I see strong marketing potential here.

You actually make a great point. The people that are really actively looking ar probably already using the career site, so this is indeed an opportunity to market Microsoft, our products and our employement brand.

I am in the process of selecting the inaugural "hot job" to push out ; )
