It's first marketing shot fired against IE and it ends up in their own foot?  Ouch!

Ouch. It is sort of interesting, I've been an Open Source user since before it was cool, though I've never been an MS basher.

I think it's interesting to see that as these organizations start to reach scale (and of course, realistically that means about 1/100 the size of microsoft) they start having the same issues.

It seems for a long time people have felt OSS was superior, not just in engineering, but morally also. Turns out anyone that gets big enough (gets enough eyes watching them) will screw up in public.

That is awful. I couldn't help but laugh after reading that the head of marketing said he was shocked that their stats were so out of whack. At least admit that you have done something in bad taste and apologize.

This makes me appreciate the marketing and legal beagles that review my stuff.  I know I fume at a delay or two, but it's better than gufaws like this.

Note to self: Watch those research vendors.
