Here are my thoughts: I don't have any insight into how many technology decisions are being driven via Bill versus the people that work for him. I hear great

re: Bill Gates' Transition

It's gotta be one hell of a feeling to have the influence, resources and time to address problems you're passionate about and will affect so many people.

Bill's been inspirational but now he has the opportunity to become legendary.

There is power in focus. With Bill's mind & influence (and of course his bucks) it will be interesting to see where the foundation goes and does.

re: Bill Gates' Transition

This seems like just a formality as to what he's been for a while now...kind of like a figurehead (i.e. Queen Elizabeth, the rich male version).

re: Bill Gates' Transition

Mel, agreed. I like how honest he is about his wealth. Goes to show there's something more important than software...wait, did I just say that? : )

Christien-interesting characterization though I wouldn't really agree. I think if Bill wasn't involved in the day-to-day full-time, the announcement wouldn't have been necessary. Having said that, his part-time involvement will be valuable and we have got lots of smart tech folks here that are stepping up. I think that making the change over 2 years is wise, though I'm pretty excited about seeing what the Gates foundation is going to do.

Microsoft Weblog » Employee’s View of Role Changes

PingBack from http://www.microsoftweblog.com/2006/06/16/employees-view-of-role-changes/
