Get in the GAMES and help fight Cancer

We are looking forward to hosting you at our DevCon next week. One of the side events we are excited to bring you is our Charity Game Night on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008.

What is it

We will be sponsoring a Charity Game Night on the second evening of the conference for the benefit of the American Association for Cancer Research (details on AACR below).

Goals

The primary goal is to have a great time networking with our peers and playing some fun games - with a nice side benefit of doing it all for a worthwhile cause that impacts all of us.  There will be beer, wine, and light appetizers too. Even if you choose not to compete there will be plenty to do.

Games

There will be three tournaments:

  • Texas Hold-em (up to 70 people)
  • Halo 3 (up to 64 people)
  • Guitar Hero (up to 32 people)

Prizes

We're not playing for money (though we think there might be some nearby places that will accommodate you if you're interested) - instead, we're offering great PRIZES for the winners, including:  Xbox 360s and Zunes.

Win XBOX! Win a Zune!

How to enter the competition

Since this is a charity event, we are asking everyone who would like to  participate in the competition to make a donation to benefit AACR (all donations of $20 US or more will be eligible for any of the three tournaments). Cool prizes will be awarded to multiple winners.

You can make your donation to AACR in 2 ways:

  • Pre-conference: Make your donations directly on AACR.org donation site (see below) and bring the confirmation page to the conference.
  • At the Conference: Make your donation at the donation booth

To donate and register for the tournament, follow these instructions:

  1. Connect to http://www.aacr.org
  2. Click on "Make a Donation" in the left column
  3. Select "Gift in Honor" and then enter “HLSDevCon2008”
  4. Complete and submit the online form
  5. Print your receipt page or your email confirmation and bring it to the event.  You can use that as proof of your donation.
  6. Send an email to allandcp AT microsoft DOT com requesting a slot in the tournament of your choice (you can include your AACR confirmation, if you like)

We will also have a computer available at the event for making donations and signing up on-site.  However, we recommend you donate before coming to the event to avoid any delays.

Again, if you are interested in participating in the contests, please send an email to allandcp AT microsoft DOT com to secure your entry (if you have your AACR donation confirmation email, you can include that, too).  You can also sign up at the event, but note that space is limited and we can't guarantee a spot.

Even if you are not participating in the tournaments, feel free to send a donation to AACR.  As mentioned above, it is a fantastic organization, worthy of all of our support.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in Atlantic City!
