Hi, My Name is Howard, and I...
Use Visual SourceSafe. Yes, that's right - I said it! I am now on a project that uses the source control system that causes babies to cry and IT operations managers to say dirty words. It's not that I want to use it - it's not that we're going to continue using it long term - but that's what is currently there - so there you go.
To make matters worse, our VSS database sits on the other side of the country from where I sit. Those of you who have had to endure this kind of topology know the pain that I feel - felt, that is. I just installed a product called Source OffSite over our VSS setup. Essentially, the product consists of a a server that marshals VSS requests between the VSS database and n number of the product's client installations. The client software replaces the VSS explorer.
In that I'm the only remote team member who needs access to the VSS database, this was totally worth the $234 for a single-client license - and OMG, my VSS setup now flies - I mean - well - relative to before <g>!
On another note - sorry it's been so long since I last blogged. I've been ramping pretty hard on my new role with the magazine and am just now able to get my head above water. I'm actually baking time into my calendar going forward so that I can blog at least once a week. Now I just hope I have something cool to say.
