Behold the Calming Powers of IT!
A while back I wrote about how my wife had begun using the closet that is home to my server rack as a bread-rising room. Well, as it turns out, my little hardware investment has paid off in yet another random way. On July 7 (yea, 7/7/7 - it totally rocks), my daughter was born - so she's a little over 4 weeks old at the moment. And like most children at that age, she has moments where she cries for no apparent reason, and without any indicator of how to console her. That is - until we discovered the power of the server rack! You see, in addition to giving off an absolute ton of heat, my little data center also gives off quite a bit of white noise - which is apparently quite soothing for a 4 week old.
So - while most people go through a checklist of things to check/do when baby cries, my answer is simple - "take baby to the data center!"
