Wanna Work at MSDN Magazine??
As Josh recently posted, we are looking for a new Senior Editor to join the staff at MSDN Magazine. Here's the link to the formal job posting. The top of this posting lists the position as a Redmond-based position. The reality is that it is either Redmond-based OR New York-based.
I'll list the official responsibilities and goals in just a second, but speaking personally here, this is a ridiculously exciting opportunity. Driven largely by the ease of publishing (e.g. - blogging) and the increased accuracy of search engines, the entire magazine business is changing, whether it wants to or not. In this position, you'll get to figure out what MSDN Magazine will look like in this new world order. Plus, you get to work with me <g>!
Anyway, here's the official list of responsibilities.
- Working with the Editor-in-Chief to help define the editorial strategy and create the monthly magazine editorial calendar.
- Editing articles and columns for overall structure, content, voice, and accuracy while maintaining Microsoft and magazine styles and standards.
- Identifying editorial opportunities for presenting content in better ways. This includes spotting opportunities to enhance content and providing suggestions for additional graphics, sidebars, and so on.
- Helping to plan, acquire, and review technical content for MSDN Magazine.
- Influencing the magazine's online publication strategy, providing insight and direction for new online extensions and original content channels that exceed customer needs.
- Helping to create new content areas and content strategies for the magazine team.
- Keeping staff apprised of and updated on all obstacles and issues regarding articles and authors at daily staff meetings.
- Recruiting and developing Microsoft and third-party authors, while managing existing author relationships and ensuring ongoing author satisfaction.
- Representing MSDN Magazine and Microsoft through blogging, and through other community-related activities.
- Staying up to date on industry knowledge and latest technologies as they pertain to MSDN Magazine and TechNet Magazine.
- Using online traffic data and reader research to continually improve the relevance of the magazine to our customers.

I am currently the Editor-in-Chief for MSDN Magazine. I joined Microsoft in 2006 as a product planner with the certification team at Microsoft Learning. Prior to that, I spent my career as a developer and later as an architect. My main technology passions include pretty much anything on language theory, agile development, and service-oriented architecture.
