Free trials are here! Free trials are here!

The jerkRemember Steve Martin in "The Jerk?" One of my favorite scenes is when he runs around yelling, "The new phone books are here! The new phone books are here!" My family has long since stopped thinking it was funny when I repeat that scene when our new phone books arrive.

This morning it's feeling like that again, though. We're able to deliver free, downloadable trials for more than a dozen suites and products for the 2007 Microsoft Office system (commonly referred to as Office 2007). There's a lot to write about the efforts behind the scenes. But let's get to the good stuff. Head on over to the trials site and start your downloads!

For those of you outside the US, you need to use the following URL's (No German release yet):

Tried to download today. Filled out the forms, registered my email, then discovered the download form only accepts US states and zip codes. I live in beautiful Prince Edward Island, on the east coast of Canada.

When will the download be available for Canada?

Huge dissapointment! All this new graphics power and they still haven't fixed the poor quality printing of 3D Pie Charts. The only way to get a smooth line is to use Office for the Mac. What a shame!

The Canadian download works just fine. Thank you!

Now a question: If I create a presentation with the trial version of PowerPoint 2007, will it become nonfunctional when the trial time runs out? Or will it be ok until I have the budget to purchase Office 2007?

What about Australia! Spent hours trying to complete registration that is geared only for USA residents. Everywhere I go to try downloading I can't do it! Frustrated to the max....

I downloaded the trial version of Office 2007 Professional and everything loaded fine but there is no Outlook 2007!!!  I can't evaluate much of anything without Outlook.  Can anyone tell me why it did not install (I have tried twice) and what I need to do to install Outlook 2007?

To answer (well, no real answers yet) a few questions here: Sorry, no Outlook. I'll look into why that is. Also, sorry about the Australia thing. I'll ping some folks and see why that limitation is in place.

Still no Outlook 2007 apparent in the trial versions!

OK so I thought perhaps there was a problem in the download of Office 2007 Professional since I never saw any evidence of Outlook after installation.  So I uninstalled and downloaded the suite again.  Same result: no Outlook 2007 and of course the Contact Manager components would not install because it told me that Outlook 2007 had to be installed first...no kidding!  So I did an installation repair with no further luck...the repair said everything was hunky dory.

So I uninstalled 2007 Professional and decided I would try to download a trial version of Office 2007 Standard thinking that perhaps there was a glitch with the Professional Suite download.  Ummm...errrrr...nothing different.  The Standard Suite installed just fine; that is to say Word, Excel, and Powerpoint did, but still no Outlook.

Naturally when I went to the update site and permitted Microsoft to Auto Detect the software on my computer it showed Word, Excel, and Powerpoint 2007, and Outlook 2003.

At this point I have uninstalled everything infrustration...I need to get back to work...and Office Suite 2007 is not helping me to do it...yet.

Is there any Outlook 2007 standalone trial version? I may not wish to buy the entire office suite when the trial time expires.

My experience so far is as follows: I had Office 2003 pro running with Outlook 2003. Downloaded Office 2007 pro and only installed Outlook (this is my primary interest) Worked fine but email "send" function not activated (a message popped up telling me to  buy the retail version). Uninstalled the trial version and did a repair install for Outlook 2003. The procedure appeared to work ok but Outlook 2003 not available as a program ... whoops!.

have the same problem - no outlook available in my office professional suit - thought this could be a teaser to buy the package; so what the heck - want to get this whole transition thing over with as quickly as possible - bought the package; however, same result - NO Outlook 2007; even worst, my Outlook 2003 doesn't use Word as its editor anymore --> what is going on?

If your having problems getting Outlook 2007 to install, try following these steps.

Go to "Add/remove programs" and choose previous office version.

Then select "change" and select Outlook as "Not available"

this will remove previous version.

then go to the Office 2007, select " change" choose Outlook to "run from my computer"

This work for me, apparently the trial doesn't upgrade Outlook on its own.

Hope it works for you!

Seems like typical MS:  In all the come-on to activate 07 Office trial, nowhere to find the price if you convert to buy it.  How much will Office cost at the end of the 60-day trial???

Keitho - you are my hero!

Fantastic tip.

I installed Outlook 2007 and had it up and running.

Then I went back and installe dthe rest of Office and it uninstalled Outlook. When I tried to add it back  - it was Unavailable. I couldn't figure out how to make it Available until I read your tip.

It worked great!

Thanks so much.

Well, I got my copy of MS Office 2k7 from an Aussie mag, and they gave an address to go to get the serial number, and guess what, I was given the choice of the United States of America as my country.  Instantaneous electronic migration!!!  Any colour you want, as long as it's black!!!

I'm starting to think Microsoft either thinks we're all mushrooms and can be fed anything they like, or they just aren't serious about customer service.

Canada, Japan, Germany, UK/Ireland and France

Thanks to Neil for doing and being logical! No yank would think of that...
