Sounds great.

But (based on the above screenshot), you probably should have used the Office Word 2007 icon for the Word 2007 button, not a Word 2003 document icon.

I have tried it for two weeks. I was told they invested a lot of R&D on this item. I find it takes for mouse clicks and more arm movement to do the things I do. It's pretty like Clippy, and as useful. It's not efficient for me. Is there a "restore classic UI" button or do I have to hide the ribbon bar and add all those icons I need to the quick access bar? Help!

I downloaded the add-in. But it did not install on the "Fluent" ribbon. Each of the three Get Started add-ins are listed in my "add or remove programs" but I also cannot uninstall them and get error messages "invalid drive c" and "fatal error during installation". So, they are neither installed on the ribbon and they are not able to be removed via "add or remove programs"! My laptop runs XP. A real bummer. I did successfully install them on a Vista machine.

I am sorry to say that I find the Office Ribbon the least productive part of ANY upgrade I have ever seen. I have been using Word for just about 18 years, most of my working life, & I can say without any reservation that Office 2007 is the biggest drain on my productivity in that period.

How this is supposed to make things any better is beyond me, & as I advise my customers on all things IT they are not interested in anything that will disrupt their staff to this extent.

I have no idea what sort of UI testing was done (although I accept that there must have been a lot), but things that used to be simple are now hidden, hard to find or simply incomprehensible.

That I have spent 15 mins finding a half way suitable place to air my thoughts highlights my deep frustration with this version of Office.

Don't get me started on Vista, if I manage a day without a crash that's a good day. I have given up trying to copy to & from network drives, it just doesn't work.

Sorry for the rant, but MS must accept that there are people who are very, very unhappy with this software & could have done something better to help us adapt (the old menus available for example).

Our call centre personel tell us that they have, so far, not found this feature to be much of an aid to productivity. They'e just experienced a complete refit with furniture from www.theglassoffice.co.uk and they tell us that the new seating etc. is much more beneficial than this new ribbon tab.

It’s difficult to keep up with all the changes with the menu items, as once you had office 2000 set-up and working well along comes something completely new and different.

I still prefer the simpler version as I’ve used it for a long time so the new needs some time to get used to..

I've been using this new "Ribbon" thing for the last few weeks. Despite all the hoopla, the "Ribbon" has played havoc with my productivity. I've used Office apps (mainly Excel and Word) for more years than I care to remember. I do not see any reason to invest time (a VERY precious commodity to me) and energy to learn a whole new interface. I also consider it to be quite arrogant on Microsoft's part not to provide an option to use the older interface. On older machines, Office usually came pre-installed. Now there's the trial version and MS wants more $$$ for a "full" version. Let's see. Do I really want to shell out more $$$s for the new version of Office that I can barely stand?

This reminds me of the arrogant attitude IBM had about their software and OS/2 (anyone remember that) back in the early 90s.

Oh well! I'm off to try out OpenOffice. The menus & UI appear to be much closer to the ones I was used to. Then there's Google Apps. If any one of those choices works out, I guess MS will be losing another Office customer.

Think about your long-term plans for the room: Do you like it the way it is, or do you want to change it? If it’s the latter, what kind of look or feeling do you want the space to have? Buy for the way you want the room to be, not necessarily the way it is; that way, you’re not tossing out your furniture in three years when you finally get around to decorating it the way you want it.

I am also getting the "Not Loaded - runtime error" when I try to install this. I'm running XP, and all updates are current (except SP3). I have tried the MS Support Community, but have not received a solution there. Anyone have any idea how to actually get this to work?

I was nofollow-ing this thread with the great and the good of the UK office industry all leaving comments, so I thought I ought to comment as I didnt want to be the missing link.

The ribbon bar is a bit annoying at first, at least until you find your way around. Some of the options are where you least expect them to be. Like in excel for example, move or copy sheet is under "Format". ......why?
