The Design-Time Developer

Who are you?

I haven't received a lot of comments or feedback to my blog in the past couple months, so I'm curious to know who my regular blog readers are.  I find blogging is a lot like webcasting - on the surface, it seems like a one-way stream of data, but there are always means of turning the tool into a 2-way dialogue.  Comment to this post and tell me something about yourself.

  • What do you do?
  • What makes you tick?
  • What excites you?
  • Where do you live?
  • What's one interesting thing about you that not many people know?

I'm eager to find out who is coming to my blog - that way, I can better understand what you like and why I blog.

To answer your question, I would say "most of the time". By the way, thanks for the feedback - I am glad to know that there is at least one Earth-bound homo sapiens reading my blog.

David, I have to ask about one of the items on your list - "wireless optical battery-less mice" - is that a for-real thing or just a fantasy right now? It's the battery-less combined with wireless that has me baffled.

Jay, glad you'll be joining us for the BoL event in Madison. Definitely stop by and say hello! I saw that you are currently working in VB6 - I just happened across a free book on MSDN that might interest you if you're looking to "upgrade" your skills - Upgrading VB6 to VB .NET (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbrun/staythepath/additionalresources/upgradingvb6/). Let me know what you think.

I'm reading your blog ... maybe a day or two behind real time but if we can delay TV with a DVR perhaps we can delay blog reading...

BTW - I see a huge number of hits to my blog and about 1 tenth of one percent of people comment on the blog.

Jim, I don't know if this will solve your project task or just frustrate you, but have you checked out Cizer - they make a browser-based reporting tool that sits on top of SQL Reporting Services (http://www.cizer.com/portalcsvs/DesktopDefault.aspx). If you are building something that works independently of SQL Reporting Services, more power to you... I'd love to see the finished product.

Steve, when you say "pack rat", what do you mean? I have trouble getting rid of items with sentimental value, but my grandfather (may he rest in peace) was the king - he had stacks of plastic berry pints and boxes of plastic produce bags and twist ties because he never knew when he (or someone else) might need one (or a dozen). What's the most interesting item or collection you have?
