Did this post ring a bell or what?!!

I am constantly surprised by how little even some of the most successful developers and PMs know about testing. Its not that these guys are not smart enough to understand, its just that they choose to ignore it. Ignore something that affects the product in such a fundamental way!

The cultural change you talk about effecting is a HUGE and direly necessary one. I am really looking forward to hearing more from you about how you think we can actually start bringing in this change.

Great post! :)

They will ensure their code is well tested, either with - or without - the involvement of the 'testers'.

As you might imagine, they are a pleasure to work with :)

This particular post is my favorite because it touches what I think is one of the most fundamental issues: we teach, grow and reward people to design and build systems and not to test. This starts all the way back at college. We teach computer science students algorithms and systems, and the emphasis is, more than anything else, on efficiency. That might have worked 15 years ago, when programs were manageable and computers were slow. The complexity of today’s software is very high and the cost of testing and servicing is continuously increasing. The focus of computer science and software engineering courses needs to shift more towards the robustness, predictability and testability of algorithms and systems, so that tomorrow’s students can be part of the culture change in the industry that you envision (and which I hope to see happen).
