Update on Slow Startup Fix

A while back, I wrote a post regarding slow startup of ASP.NET 2.0 applications due to a lookup on a bad account. The hotfix for that issue is now available. The KB number is 944157. You can get the fix by calling PSS or by using our online automated system.

I cant find that KB or the hotfix. the automated process for getting hotfixes is not working like it used to

# jamesche said on January 8, 2008 4:12 PM:

I just finished the KB on it today. I suspect it will be several days before the article is live.

This fix is also included in SP1 for the .NET Framework 2.0, so if you want to download it now, you can go that route as well.

Hello Jim,

Just to clarify.  If I download the below item it should fix the bad account problem.

.NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Redistributable

Dustin

Hi, Dustin. You need the full SP1, not just the Compact Framework. See this blog post for more links:

Hello Jim,

I installed The full SP1 and seems to have fixed the problem on my 2003 servers.  However, the problem persists on my 2000 and xp machines.  Any advice is appreciated.

Regards,

Dustin

Dustin,

Does installing the hotfix on those boxes help? If not, you'll need to open a case with us so that we can debug it.

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately, it appears the KB article is not up on the site.  Is there any reason it would not be shown?

Regards,

Dustin

It hasn't completed going throught the publishing phase yet. If you call in and ask for the fix, you will get it. I've let our front-line teams know about it.

Hi Jim,

I don't suppose it is possible to post a link to the file to download.  If that is the case what information will I need to call in and what is the number.

All your time is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dustin

Hey, Dustin. There isn't a link that I can give you. To call in, look up a number for your location at http://support.microsoft.com. When you call, just tell them that you need the hotfix for KB 944157.

I'm a bit confused...in the list of fixes for SP1 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945757), this problem (944157) is not referenced.  Can I be confident that this fix is included in this service pack?

# jamesche said on February 26, 2008 3:15 PM:

Hi, Patricia. I'm not sure why the fix isn't referenced in the article. I assure you that it's part of SP1. I will get the article changed.

Hi Jim, I noticed that 944157 is now referenced in the list of fixes for SP1. And the KB article is also available (although not searchable from the support site). I still need some clarification because the release date for .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 is 19 Nov 2007 and the hotfix includes executables for X86 machines dated 20 Dec 2007. So how could this hot fix be part of SP1? Anyway, I called tech support and I've opened a case to get access to the hotfix in a few days for me to try. Jo

Don't ask me to explain the ins and outs of our build process. Due to the way that cutoffs happen, etc., you may see builds later than the SP build that are not in the SP and vice versa. Suffice it to say that the fix is included in SP1. I double-confirmed that with our product group when I was working on this hotfix. :)
