Adding to the kipple... One post at a time.
CodePlex.com Beta

Over 13 months ago (April 4, 2005 in fact) I posted something on my blog that I was leaving the patterns & practices team. Since that time we assembled a team of people and in turn built a community site for developers to innovate and participate in collaborative development projects. The web-site launched last Thursday, May 11, 2006 and is currently in beta. I encourage you to check out the site at http://codeplex.com . I look forward to getting your feedback on what we did right, wrong and suggestions on how to improve. Please feel free to respond directly. Alternatively we also have a project on the CodePlex site (here) where you can post your comments in the discussion forum.

We currently have 12 projects on the site and as we progress through the beta there will be additional projects and more content in each individual project. Some of the current projects include the "Atlas" Control Toolkit, NUnitLite, and IronPython. If you are interested in hosting your project on the site please send me an email. In this beta period we will be increasing the number of projects slowly as we scale out the infrastructure to ensure high reliability and availability for our users.

Are you going to help people to migrate there projects from Gotdotnet to Codeplex? If not then I want to disagree because having multiple community sites dilutes your community. Please make a unified site on which users will be able to:
1. File bug against any Microsoft product.
2. Make suggestions for any Microsoft product.
3. Make corrections to MSDN online (like wiki perhaps?).
4. Create and colaborate on open source projects either Microsoft ones or external.
5. Discuss about Microsoft, voice opinions, and give general feedback on policy, directions, public relations (channel9?).
6. Listen to interviews, potcasts, videos and other Microsoft shows (Channel9).
7. Help each other in forums by giving support on Microsoft products. Make both a website and a newsgroups access-point to this information. If users want they could use the forums site or others could use the newsgroups. In any case, the content should be shared.
Is it so difficult to incorporate these services under a single umbrella, under a single connecting point between Microsoft and its customers. Nowadays, you have all these community sites which are scuttered around. Please consolidate.

We are having some problems in the registration area. Some of it has to do with complex password requirements which we will correct. We are looking into these issues and hope to have something to correct it very soon. I will post something here as well as in the discussion forums on the site.

First impression is that it's an excellent start. Very promising.
The urgent things to fix are:

* It's too slow - there seem to be a whole load of network round trips to load a page
* A source code viewer/diff is vital
