Other than the impact of the new screen orientation and resolution options on mobile devices, I can't help thinking also about how this brings about a convergence of the development experience for Pocket PC and Tablet PC - (especially for managed code, since hardware differences are abstracted somewhat). In other words, despite the different OS, someone developing applications for the Pocket PC now has a set of considerations to, er, consider that are very similar to those that confront someone developing for the Tablet PC (e.g. input method, screen orientation). I wonder if this will lead to the devices themselves being viewed as occupying points on a continuum (with appropriate OS for their place in that continuum) rather than as totally distinct platforms.
