Are Office and OS UI widgets going to come into line any time soon?

For a *long* time now, Office has been flying in the face of the operating system, rolling its own UI. Regardless of which style is deemed superior, it would be nice if the two looked at home with each other. By having different looks, developers have to choose between them, making it impossible to provide a consistent experience. It's kinda frustrating.

What would be your advice on this? And are the teams working together more for Longhorn?

Cheers. :)

RE: And the PDC... is over. In terms of Office, just like with anything there's a set of decisions you have to make and influences on those decisions about how you do things (some historical even). I can't comment on decisions they've made as a team, but it's a couple key things that are generally issues for people tend to be about timing and delivery. The Office team has to do things like ship on multiple versions of Windows, which means evaluating any dependencies they would have - if a feature is on Windows XP but not Windows 2000, do you support it? Sometimes you do - sometimes you don't. This is where good software engineering comes into play - make the decisions as well as you can, ship the right set of features and make customers happy.

As far as frustrating developers - I take that as clear feedback that we have some ways to go before we're making things as clean and simple as possible for people. I'll be sure to pass it on.

RE: And the PDC... is over.
